Raising Strong Boys

Every year on May 16, we mark International Boy Child Day—a day set aside to reflect on the challenges boys face in our world today and to reaffirm our commitment to nurturing them into strong, compassionate, and responsible men.

For too long, conversations around child development have often overlooked the unique experiences and needs of boys. Yet, across the globe, boys face rising rates of school dropouts, substance abuse, emotional suppression, gang involvement, and violence. Many grow up believing that to be "a man" is to be tough, emotionless, and aggressive.

But the world is changing—and so must our approach.

International Boy Child Day is a powerful reminder that boys, too, need love, guidance, protection, and affirmation. They need safe spaces to express vulnerability. They need role models who teach by example. They need communities that nurture their potential without boxing them into harmful stereotypes.

As parents, teachers, leaders, and caregivers, we must ask:

Are we listening to our boys?

Are we teaching them empathy, respect, and emotional intelligence?

Are we creating environments that support their mental health and self-worth?

Every boy is a seed of possibility. With the right support, he can grow into a man who leads with integrity, respects others, and makes a positive difference in the world.

So today, let’s rise to the call:

Let’s mentor, protect, and uplift our boys.

Let’s speak life into their dreams.

Let’s raise a generation of men who will make the world a better, kinder place.

Happy International Boy Child Day!
