The Day Darkness Thought It Won
Good Friday stands as one of the most paradoxical days in history - a day when darkness seemed to prevail, when hope appeared to fade, and when the light of the world was crucified.
From a human perspective, it looked like the end.
Jesus, who had healed the sick, raised the dead, and preached love and truth, was betrayed, arrested, and condemned. He was mocked, beaten, and nailed to a cross. The crowd that once praised Him turned against Him. His followers scattered in fear. The sky itself grew dark, as if creation mourned what was taking place.
In that moment, it seemed as though darkness had won.
Evil appeared victorious.
Truth seemed silenced.
Hope looked defeated.
But appearances can be deceiving.
What looked like defeat was actually the unfolding of a greater victory. The cross was not the triumph of darkness - it was the turning point of redemption. In the very moment when evil thought it had overcome, God was accomplishing His greatest work.
The enemy may have thought the story was over.
But God was just beginning.
Good Friday reminds us that God often works in ways we do not immediately understand. Sometimes, what looks like loss is actually preparation. What feels like defeat may be the pathway to victory.
The cross was not the end - it was the bridge to resurrection.
In the silence that followed, when hope seemed buried and the future uncertain, God was still at work behind the scenes. The grave would not have the final say. Death would not have the final word.
Because Sunday was coming.
The resurrection would reveal what Good Friday concealed - that darkness never truly had the power to win.
This truth speaks to us even today.
There are moments in life when situations feel overwhelming, when darkness seems to close in, and when it appears as though hope is lost. But Good Friday reminds us that what we see is not always the full story.
God is still working.
Hope is still alive.
Victory is still possible.
So if you find yourself in a season where it feels like darkness is winning, remember this:
The day darkness thought it won
was actually the day victory was secured.
Because with God, the story never ends in defeat.
